YouTube is officially phasing out its Trending section within the next few weeks.
The company announced that it will retire both the Trending page and Trending Now list, shifting its focus to YouTube Charts and personalized recommendations to help users discover popular content.
Launched in 2015, the Trending tab aimed to show a unified list of viral videos. But YouTube says this approach no longer reflects today’s viewing habits, which are shaped by Shorts, niche fandoms, and outside platforms like TikTok. As a result, traffic to the Trending page has sharply declined in recent years.
In place of Trending, YouTube is expanding its Charts, which already rank top music videos, podcasts, and trailers. More category-specific charts will be added over time. Trending gaming videos will still be accessible under the Gaming Explore page.
For creators, YouTube recommends using the Inspiration Tab in YouTube Studio for AI-powered content ideas. The company is also investing in discovery tools for new creators, including the Hype promotional system, which lets viewers boost emerging videos to a wider audience.
