X is tightening its rules against content theft and engagement bait as it works to protect original creators and improve the integrity of its revenue-sharing program.
The company says its latest Grok AI model can now detect duplicated content at three times the rate of the previous version. The improved system is designed to identify reposted videos, copied text posts, and other forms of duplicated content, even when users try to disguise them by adding watermarks, intros, or other edits.
Under the updated policy, monetized impressions generated by copied content will be credited to the original creator instead of the account that reposted it. The changes apply not only to videos but also to copied viral text posts that have been widely shared across the platform.
According to X executive Nikita Bier, the company detected around 1.5 million stolen posts during its latest enforcement cycle. While he did not specify the time period, he said the new measures will redirect more than $1 million in creator payouts back to the rightful owners of the content.
X is also stepping up efforts to combat AI-powered spam and automated accounts. The company has previously said it is identifying and suspending bots at an increasing rate, helping reduce abuse across the platform.
The platform also warned that creators who repeatedly attempt to bypass the new rules risk losing access to the creator monetization program. Users who repeatedly post engagement bait, such as promising to follow everyone who replies or encouraging artificial interactions to boost reach, may be removed from the program and referred to X’s policy team for possible account suspension.
