Elon Musk-owned social media platform X has introduced major changes to its creator revenue-sharing programme to limit the spread of AI-generated misinformation, especially during times of war and global conflict.

The update comes as concerns grow over misleading content related to the ongoing tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran.

X Product Head Nikita Bier said the platform is tightening its policies to make sure authentic information remains visible while discouraging the spread of deceptive AI content.

He explained that advanced artificial intelligence tools now make it very easy to produce realistic-looking videos that can mislead viewers and spread false narratives online.

Bier revealed that the platform recently identified a person in Pakistan operating 31 accounts that were posting AI generated war videos. According to him, those accounts were hacked and renamed on February 27 with variations of “Iran War Monitor”.

He said X is becoming faster at detecting such activity and is also removing financial incentives for users who attempt to spread misleading AI content.

Under the new policy, creators who share AI-generated videos of armed conflicts without clearly stating that the content was generated by artificial intelligence will be suspended from the creator revenue-sharing programme for 90 days.

Repeated violations could result in permanent removal from the programme.

X said these posts may be identified using Community Notes, metadata and signals from generative AI tools.

The company has also introduced a “Made with AI” label that will appear on posts containing AI-generated elements so viewers can clearly see when content is created with artificial intelligence.
