Microsoft has reminded users that Windows 11 version 24H2 Home and Pro editions will stop receiving updates on October 13, 2026.
According to Microsoft’s support lifecycle, this applies specifically to the Home and Pro editions. Windows 11 24H2 Enterprise and Education editions will remain under mainstream support until October 2027. Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016 will also reach its end of updates on October 13, 2026.
After the October deadline, affected Windows 11 Home and Pro devices will no longer receive Microsoft’s monthly security updates or non-security preview updates. That means they will no longer receive the latest protections against newly discovered security threats through the normal update channel.
Microsoft is advising customers to move to Windows 11 version 25H2, also known as the Windows 11 2025 Update. The newer version is available as an enablement package, making the upgrade a relatively minor update for eligible systems.
For Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro computers that are not managed by an IT department, Microsoft said the devices will automatically upgrade to Windows 11 25H2. Users can still choose when to restart their computers or temporarily pause the update.
Users can check whether Windows 11 25H2 is available by opening Settings, going to Windows Update and selecting “Check for updates.” If the device is eligible, Microsoft will display an option to download and install Windows 11 version 25H2.
Microsoft’s Windows servicing information provides additional details about support timelines and products approaching end of support. The company also recently said that Windows Server 2022 is approaching the end of mainstream support and will move to extended support on October 13, 2026, continuing until October 14, 2031.

Earlier this year, Microsoft also extended the free Windows 10 Extended Security Updates program for home users through October 2027. Meanwhile, Windows 11 Home and Pro version 23H2 stopped receiving security updates in November 2025.
