Truecaller has launched eSIM services for travelers as the company looks for new ways to grow its business and reduce its dependence on advertising revenue.
The caller ID company said its travel eSIM plans will start from 1 GB for 7 days and go up to 20 GB for 30 days. At launch, the service will be available in 29 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Malaysia, Indonesia, South Africa, Egypt, Nigeria, and several other markets across Europe and beyond.
However, India, which is Truecaller’s biggest market, is not included in the initial rollout. The absence is likely linked to India’s strict telecom rules. Earlier, the country blocked popular eSIM providers such as Airalo and Holafly over concerns related to fraudulent use.
Truecaller said it is partnering with global cellular connectivity provider Telna and telecom software company Telness Tech to run the eSIM platform. The company believes its large existing user base will give it an advantage in a crowded market that already includes players such as Airalo, Holafly, Roamless, and NordVPN’s Saily.
Truecaller chief operating officer Fredrik Kjell told TechCrunch that the company’s starting point is different from other eSIM providers because Truecaller already has more than 500 million monthly users. He said the travel eSIM feature will be offered inside an app that millions of people already use and trust, giving the company a strong distribution advantage.
The move comes at an important time for Truecaller. The company recently cut 70 jobs across several teams and reported weaker Q1 2026 results. Its net sales fell 27% to 362 million Swedish kronor, or about $39.34 million, while ad revenue dropped 44%.
To offset pressure from falling ad revenue, Truecaller has been focusing more on subscription-based features such as AI Assistant and Family Protection. The new eSIM service could give the company another revenue stream at a time when its advertising business is facing challenges.

The launch also comes as eSIM adoption continues to grow, driven by international travel and wider device support. Investor interest in the sector has also increased, with startups such as Airalo, Roamless, Kolet, eSIMo, and Truley raising millions of dollars over the past year.
