Snap has announced Snap OS 2.0, the latest version of the operating system that powers its AR glasses, Snap Spectacles.

The update introduces a native browser, WebXR support, and a range of new features designed to make AR more practical and immersive.

The launch follows the release of Snap’s fifth-generation Spectacles for developers last year, with a consumer version expected in 2026. It also arrives just ahead of Meta’s annual Connect conference, where competing advancements in smart glasses and AI are expected.

At the center of Snap OS 2.0 is a faster native browser, optimized for speed and power efficiency. Users can now access a redesigned home screen with widgets and bookmarks, along with a new toolbar for typing or speaking URLs, navigating history, and refreshing pages. Window resizing, similar to desktop multitasking, is also supported.

With WebXR integration, Spectacles owners can now launch AR experiences directly from supported websites, expanding the glasses’ capabilities beyond Snap’s ecosystem.

New AR-focused features include:

  • Spotlight Lens: Lets users pin vertical video into their environment, allowing activities like watching creator content while doing chores.
  • Gallery Lens: Displays Spectacles captures in an interactive carousel, making it easy to organize and share memories.
  • Travel Mode: Stabilizes AR content and tracking while on the move, whether in a car or on a plane.

Snap says the portrait orientation of Spectacles’ field of view is ideal for vertical video, keeping immersive content aligned with everyday use without requiring users to glance at their phones.
