The U.S. Senate has confirmed Jared Isaacman as the new head of NASA, just months after President Donald Trump initially withdrew his nomination before selecting him again in November, according to earlier reporting by CNBC.
Isaacman is the founder and CEO of Shift4, a payments technology company, and has traveled to space twice on private missions operated by Elon Musk’s SpaceX. Trump first nominated Isaacman in December 2024 but later pulled the nomination in May. At the time, Trump said in a Truth Social post that it would be “inappropriate that a very close friend of Elon, who was in the space business, run NASA.”
Concerns over Isaacman’s ties to Musk were raised during the confirmation process. Addressing those issues at a Senate hearing earlier this month, Isaacman said he flew SpaceX missions because it was “the only organization that can send astronauts to and from space since the shuttle was retired,” as reported by RollCall.
After re-nominating Isaacman, Trump said the billionaire entrepreneur is “ideally suited to lead NASA into a bold new era.”
