A federal jury in Marshall, Texas, has ruled that Samsung Electronics must pay nearly $ 445.5 million to Collision Communications for infringing patents related to 4G, 5G, and Wi-Fi technologies.

The jury decided that Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones, laptops, and other wireless devices violated four patents owned by Collision.

This verdict adds to a series of major patent infringement losses for Samsung in the same Texas court over the past few years. The case was filed in 2023 by Collision Communications a company based in Peterborough, New Hampshire.

The lawsuit claimed that Samsung used technology that improves wireless network efficiency without permission. The patents were originally developed from research by defense contractor BAE Systems, which is not involved in the case.

Samsung denied the allegations and argued that the patents were invalid but the jury sided with Collision after reviewing the evidence. Representatives from both companies have not yet commented on the decision.
