Poland has asked the European Commission to look into TikTok after artificial intelligence-generated videos appeared on the platform, calling for the country to leave the European Union.

Polish officials believe the content was part of a Russian disinformation campaign and say it could harm public order and democratic stability.

The videos, which recently became popular on TikTok, showed young women wearing Polish national colors while urging people to support Poland’s exit from the EU. Authorities say the account gained attention quickly before disappearing from the platform. According to the Polish government, the language used in the recordings showed signs of Russian sentence structure, which raised serious concerns about foreign interference.

Deputy Digitalization Minister Dariusz Standerski said the content threatens information security in Poland and across the European Union. He also stated that the way the videos were created and shared suggests TikTok may not be fully meeting its responsibilities as a very large online platform under EU law. Poland has formally asked the European Commission to start proceedings under the Digital Services Act.

TikTok said it has been working with Polish authorities and has removed content that breaks its rules. A spokesperson for the European Commission confirmed receiving Poland’s request and said large platforms are required to assess and reduce risks linked to artificial intelligence, including the spread of misleading or manipulated content.
