Rockstar Games has broken its silence on the recent wave of Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay leaks, describing the situation as heartbreaking for the team and saying the leaked footage was never how the studio wanted fans to first see the game.
In a statement shared on social media, Rockstar apologized for how long fans have been waiting for more information about GTA VI. The studio said development is nearly complete and that it is working toward sharing more official details and gameplay with the community.
Videos showing gameplay from what appears to be a playable build of GTA VI have been circulating online for several days. The leaks have reportedly been linked to an individual or group using the name “CyberLeek,” with some of the leaked material also being used to promote a cryptocurrency.
Take-Two Interactive, the game’s publisher, has also taken legal steps over the leaked material. The company has asked for permission to subpoena Microsoft and Discord in an effort to identify those responsible for distributing the copyrighted footage.
Rockstar is now preparing to give fans an official extended look at GTA VI. The presentation is scheduled to stream exclusively on Netflix at 3 PM ET, giving players a chance to see more of the highly anticipated game through official footage.
Grand Theft Auto VI is currently scheduled to launch on November 19.
