OpenAI is expanding the reach of its upgraded image generation model, “gpt-image-1,” bringing its creative power to external platforms via API access.

The model, known for generating whimsical Studio Ghibli-style visuals and highly realistic artwork, is now being integrated into tools used by millions, including Adobe, Figma, and more.

According to OpenAI’s blog post, “gpt-image-1” is a natively multimodal model capable of producing high-quality images across a wide range of styles, following specific prompts, and even rendering text accurately within images. This flexibility makes it valuable for creators, designers, and businesses alike.

Major Integrations Already Underway

  • Adobe is embedding the model into its Firefly and Express apps, offering creators new aesthetic options and more control over the design process.
  • Figma users can now generate and edit images directly inside Figma Design, adjusting elements, changing styles, and even expanding image backgrounds through simple prompts. This rollout begins today and aims to speed up visual ideation and prototyping.

Other major platforms like Canva, GoDaddy, and Instacart are also exploring how to integrate the model for various business and creative use cases.

Initially, “gpt-image-1” will be available through OpenAI’s Images API, with future support planned for the Responses API to expand its capabilities even further.
