Instagram is testing a repost feature that would allow users to reshare posts directly to their Feed, the company confirmed to TechCrunch on Monday.
Although users have long been able to share posts via Stories, this marks the first time Instagram may officially support reposting content in the main Feed.
Some users in the test group report being able to repost both their content and posts from others, suggesting the feature could function similarly to the retweet button on X (formerly Twitter) or the repost feature on Threads and TikTok.
Instagram has been working on this feature since at least 2022. Its arrival may be welcomed by users and creators who currently rely on third-party apps or manual workarounds to reshare content. An official repost option could also help ensure proper crediting of original creators, a growing concern on the platform.
However, not everyone is likely to be thrilled. Instagram’s app is already packed with features like Stories, Reels, Notes, and DMs—raising concerns that another content format could clutter the user experience.
Instagram has not yet announced a full rollout timeline, but the feature is currently in limited testing
