OpenAI has started rolling out a new feature called Library for ChatGPT, allowing users to store personal files and images directly in the cloud.
This feature is currently available to Plus, Pro, and Business users and is being released globally, except in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
Once enabled, the Library appears in the ChatGPT sidebar. Interestingly, it may not be empty when first accessed. ChatGPT automatically saves files you have uploaded in recent chats, which means users might already see previously shared documents, images, or other files stored there.

According to OpenAI, all uploaded and created files are saved in a secure, dedicated location. This includes documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and images shared during conversations. These files can later be reused in new chats, making it easier to access past work without re-uploading.
AI-generated images are handled separately and will continue to appear in the Images tab, not in the Library section. The Library is specifically designed for files uploaded by users.
To upload files from the Library, users can open the attachment menu in the chat composer, select the option to add from the Library, and choose the desired file.
An important detail is that deleting a chat does not remove files stored in the Library. Files remain saved in your account until you manually delete them. To remove a file, you need to open the Library tab, select the file, and click the delete option or the trash icon.
OpenAI states that once a file is deleted, it will be removed from its servers within 30 days. While the reason for this delay is not fully explained, it is likely related to legal or compliance requirements.
