Mozilla is officially ending support for Firefox on Windows 7 and Windows 8.

The Extended Support Release (ESR) version 115 — the final version compatible with these older operating systems — will stop receiving security updates after this month.

This move means users still running Windows 7 or Windows 8 will no longer receive important security patches or browser fixes. While Firefox may continue to function for now, it will gradually become more vulnerable to security threats over time.

Microsoft itself ended official support for Windows 7 and Windows 8 in 2023, making Mozilla’s decision expected but significant. Once browser updates stop, compatibility issues with modern websites may also increase.

For users who continue to rely on older systems, this change poses clear cybersecurity risks. Running an unsupported operating system along with an unsupported browser creates multiple security gaps that hackers could exploit.

The safest option is upgrading to a supported version such as Windows 10 or Windows 11, or switching to hardware that supports modern software updates.
