Instagram has introduced a new wordmark, giving the text-only version of its logo a fresh look after around a decade. The company says the previous design had started to feel dated after being in use for many years.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced the change on Instagram and Threads, describing the new wordmark as sharper and more modern while still maintaining references to the original design and keeping the overall look simple.
The redesigned wordmark has received a mixed response online, with some users criticizing the change while others have praised its fresher appearance and font choice. Some users have also joked that the redesigned lettering makes “Instagram” look more like “Instagzam,” particularly because of the unusual shape of the letter “r.”
The new font also has a cursive-inspired appearance, with distinctive curves on letters including the “s,” “r,” and “g.” The styling gives the wordmark a more traditional handwritten feel, although the unusual letter shapes may take some time for users to get used to.
Instagram’s last major visual redesign came in 2016, when the company replaced its classic brown camera logo with the colorful gradient icon that remains associated with the platform today.
Meta has not yet provided further details about the redesign or confirmed whether additional changes, such as a new Instagram app icon, are also planned.
