Microsoft has begun testing its new Xbox Game Pass Standard tier with select Xbox Insiders today.

This new subscription tier includes access to the extensive Game Pass library for Xbox, along with online console multiplayer. However, unlike other tiers, it does not grant immediate access to day-one game releases.

During this testing phase, Xbox Insiders can subscribe to Xbox Game Pass Standard for just $1. According to Megan Spurr, senior community lead for Xbox Game Pass, renewals during the preview period will also be priced at $1 per month. Once officially launched, the Standard tier will cost $14.99 per month.

Microsoft has provided more details regarding the availability of day-one games and other titles within the Standard tier. Games released on day one or other entries that are immediately available in the Game Pass Ultimate may not appear in the Standard library right away. Instead, they may be added at a later date, which could be up to 12 months or longer, depending on the title.

The new Xbox Game Pass Standard tier was first introduced in July, alongside price increases for the Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscriptions. Microsoft plans to fully launch this Standard tier in the “coming months.” The current Xbox Game Pass for Console subscription will still be available for existing subscribers, but new subscribers won’t be able to choose this option until the Standard tier is widely available.
