Microsoft is introducing a new page in Windows 11 Settings to make managing device recovery easier and more customizable.

This update is now being tested with Windows Insiders and is part of the company’s ongoing effort to improve system reliability.

The new settings page can be found by going to System > Recovery. It allows users to quickly check if Quick Machine Recovery (QMR) is enabled, adjust how often Windows looks for problems, and set when the system should restart to fix issues. Microsoft says this makes it simpler to control recovery options directly from the Settings menu.

These changes are currently available in the Beta Channel for users running Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.4230 (KB5058506). Microsoft also announced that the feature will be available this week for Dev Channel Insiders, who will be able to test it using special “test mode” updates, without causing real system failures.

Quick Machine Recovery (QMR) was first introduced in November 2024 as part of Microsoft’s Windows Resiliency Initiative. It came in response to a major system outage in July 2024, where a bad update from CrowdStrike Falcon left many Windows devices unable to boot.

QMR is designed to help recover from boot failures caused by new drivers or settings changes. If Windows fails to start, the system will boot into the Windows Recovery Environment and launch the Quick Machine Recovery Tool. The tool then connects to the Internet, sends crash data to Microsoft, and applies targeted fixes, like removing bad updates or rolling back driver changes, without needing physical access to the device.

Eventually, QMR will be turned on by default in Windows 11 Home, while Pro and Enterprise users will have more control over it through the Intune Settings Catalog.

Microsoft encourages testers to share their feedback using the Feedback Hub under Recovery and Uninstall > Quick Machine Recovery.
