OpenAI is preparing to roll out a major upgrade to its ChatGPT platform, introducing a new o3 Pro model aimed at boosting performance for $200/month Pro subscribers.
This new version promises enhanced compute power and stronger reasoning capabilities, making it ideal for tackling complex tasks like coding, math, and advanced problem-solving.
Currently, ChatGPT Plus ($20/month) offers access to models like GPT-4.5, GPT-4.1, o3, and o4-mini, while the Pro plan includes all of those plus o1 Pro, which delivers more compute for deeper thinking. However, o1 Pro is beginning to feel outdated, especially with the superior o3 already outperforming it on several benchmarks.
That’s about to change.
At a recent event in New Delhi, OpenAI hinted that it will replace o1 Pro with o3 Pro, combining o3’s advanced reasoning with the extra compute power traditionally found in the Pro tier. This upgrade is expected to deliver better performance on demanding tasks, including PhD-level science problems, math contests, and coding challenges.
The o3 Pro update could launch as early as next week, marking a major step forward for power users relying on ChatGPT for intensive workloads.
