Since the launch of Windows 11 in October 2021, users have frequently reported performance issues across various hardware configurations.
From underwhelming gaming performance on modern hybrid CPUs to a general sense of sluggishness compared to Windows 10, the operating system has faced ongoing criticism. While Microsoft has addressed some of these concerns through regular updates, the company is now taking a more proactive approach to tackle the problem.
In a new test build released on Friday, Microsoft introduced a logging system aimed at automatically collecting performance data. The system is designed to activate when users submit feedback related to slow or unresponsive behavior in Windows 11.
“Windows Insiders are encouraged to provide feedback when experiencing PC issues related to slow or sluggish performance, allowing Feedback Hub to automatically collect these logs, which will help us root cause issues faster,” Microsoft said in a statement.
This move is part of Microsoft’s broader commitment to enhancing Windows 11’s overall performance and reliability. The initiative is expected to contribute significantly to the upcoming 25H2 update, slated for release later this year.
Microsoft has already delivered notable performance enhancements in recent updates. Improvements rolled out in 2023 included a faster Taskbar, a more responsive notifications area, and a streamlined quick settings panel. The 24H2 update, in particular, brought visible speed gains, especially on older hardware.
In addition to performance logging, Microsoft is also tightening its standards for Windows drivers. As part of the 25H2 update, developers will be required to perform static analysis for driver certification. This process helps identify potential issues in driver code before it reaches end users, improving both system stability and compatibility.
