Lately, there’s been a lot of chatter online claiming that Microsoft has renamed Office to Microsoft 365 Copilot. The truth is, that’s not what’s happening.

The office hasn’t changed its name. What’s confusing is Microsoft’s latest app, which acts as a hub for the Office suite and its new AI features.

If you visit Office.com, you’ll see a big welcome to the Microsoft 365 Copilot app. This app combines all your familiar Office tools like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint with the new Copilot AI features. Microsoft even refers to it as “formerly Office,” which makes it sound like the traditional Office suite has been replaced. In reality, that phrase points to the older Office app that launched a few years ago to guide users toward online Office tools.

The Microsoft 365 Copilot app is essentially a central place for accessing AI-powered tools, not a replacement for the Office apps themselves. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the rest of the Office suite are still called Microsoft Office or Microsoft 365. The naming around Copilot can be confusing, but the core apps and how you use them haven’t changed.

So, despite all the online speculation, Microsoft Office is still the same suite you’ve always used. The new Copilot app just adds a smarter way to work with your documents, spreadsheets, and presentations, without changing the name of the apps you rely on every day.
