Microsoft has confirmed that it is retiring the Send to Kindle feature in Microsoft Word, a tool that allowed users to send documents directly to their Kindle library.
The change was quietly announced through an update to Microsoft’s support documentation.
According to Microsoft, the feature will be removed after February 2026. While no exact shutdown date has been shared, the company says the change may roll out gradually, suggesting a staged removal rather than an immediate cutoff.
Once the feature is retired, users will no longer see the Send Documents to Kindle option in Word’s Export menu. Microsoft is instead directing users to Amazon’s official Send to Kindle website, where doc and docx files can still be uploaded manually.
The Send to Kindle integration in Word made it easy to transfer documents in just a few clicks. Files sent this way could appear on Kindle devices either as reflowable content with adjustable font sizes or as fixed-layout documents designed to preserve the original page formatting. Microsoft previously noted that Word maintained formatting styles and page layouts similar to how the document would look when printed.
One limitation of the feature was that comments and tracked changes were not included when documents were sent to Kindle, but otherwise, it offered a straightforward way to move Word files into the Kindle ecosystem.

After February 2026, however, the built-in Send to Kindle option will no longer be available in Microsoft Word, marking the end of a long-standing convenience feature for Kindle users who rely on Word for document creation.
