Microsoft has officially launched its Windows 11 remote desktop feature for Meta’s Quest 3 and Quest 3S headsets, giving users a new way to experience their PC in virtual reality.
The feature allows you to project multiple high-resolution monitors directly into your headset, and even try an immersive ultrawide mode similar to the experience on Apple’s Vision Pro.
Microsoft first introduced this feature in preview for Quest headsets back in December 2024. Over the past few weeks, Meta has expanded access through the Horizon OS v81 update. Initially, users could only view multiple desktop screens, but UploadVR has now spotted a new ultrawide option that wraps around your view for a more cinematic workspace.
To use it, you’ll need to install Mixed Reality Link on your Windows PC. Once connected, Quest 3 and 3S users can look at their keyboard and tap “pair” to access and control their computer right from the headset. Meta says you can fully immerse yourself in a virtual environment or use passthrough mode to keep an eye on your real surroundings.
Alongside this release, Meta is adding several useful updates to improve multitasking. Users can now resize and rescale displays across all apps and use the new Full Passthrough feature to quickly check their environment by double-tapping the headset or pressing the action button on the Quest 3S. You can even open up to 12 apps at the same time, making the virtual workspace more flexible than ever.
