YouTube is rolling out a new like button feature that makes hitting the thumbs-up a little more exciting.

On select videos, when you click the like button, it now plays a short animation that matches the theme of what you’re watching. This feature was first announced in mid-October as part of YouTube’s plan to make the app easier and more fun to use.

There are currently 20 different animations, each designed to fit a specific video genre. For example, if you’re watching a car or racing video, the like button briefly turns into a spinning tire that gives off smoke. For educational content, it changes into a glowing lightbulb to symbolize learning. Animal lovers will also see special effects for dog and cat videos, although YouTube hasn’t added one for cute baby clips just yet.

If you’re curious to see what all the animations look like, you don’t need to spend hours browsing different types of videos. Andreas Storm has shared two short clips on X (formerly Twitter) that show every animation in action, as spotted by Android Authority. This small but playful update is another example of how YouTube is finding creative ways to make engaging with videos more enjoyable.
