Meta has announced that it will discontinue two of its long-standing Facebook Social Plugins—the Facebook Like and Facebook Comment buttons—on February 10, 2026.
These plugins have been around for years, allowing users to like content or post comments on external websites using their Facebook accounts.
According to Meta, this decision is part of its effort to focus on tools and features that bring more value to developers and businesses. The company explained that these older plugins represent an earlier era of web development and that their use has naturally declined over time.
When the change takes effect, the Like and Comment buttons will no longer appear on websites. Instead, they will render as a small invisible element, ensuring that no errors occur and that websites continue to function normally. Meta emphasized that this will not break any website features or cause technical problems.
Developers don’t need to take any action, but Meta suggests removing the old plugin code for a cleaner user experience if they wish. Those who want to update their sites have until February 10, 2026, to make any changes.
