Meta announced on Monday that it is adding an AI assistant to Facebook Dating, aiming to make it easier for users to find better matches.
The chatbot can help people refine their profiles or discover potential partners based on specific preferences. For example, a user could ask the AI to find “a Brooklyn girl in tech” or request suggestions to improve their dating profile.
To reduce what Meta calls “swipe fatigue,” the company is also introducing a new feature called Meet Cute. This will give users a weekly surprise match chosen by the platform’s algorithm, offering a more curated experience compared to endless swiping.
According to Meta, Facebook Dating has seen a 10% year-over-year increase in matches among adults aged 18 to 29. Hundreds of thousands of users in that age group are creating profiles each month. Still, the platform remains small compared to competitors like Tinder, which has around 50 million daily active users, and Hinge, which has about 10 million daily active users.
AI-powered features are becoming standard across the dating app industry. Established platforms and newer apps like Sitch are now relying on AI tools to improve matchmaking and stand out in a crowded market. Meta’s latest update shows it doesn’t want Facebook Dating to be left behind in this AI-driven shift.
