Malaysia has restored public access to Grok, the artificial intelligence chatbot developed by xAI, after social media platform X introduced additional safety controls, the country’s communications regulator said on Friday.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission had temporarily blocked Grok earlier this month following global criticism over a controversial feature that allowed users to generate and publicly share sexualised images of individuals.
According to the regulator, access was reinstated after X implemented stricter safeguards aimed at preventing misuse of the chatbot, including stronger content moderation and restrictions on image-generation features that could violate user safety and privacy.
