Hackers believed to be linked to Iran have claimed responsibility for breaking into the personal email account of FBI Director Kash Patel and releasing private photos and messages online.
The group, known as Handala Hack Team, published the material on its website and stated that Patel had been added to its list of successfully targeted individuals.
The leaked content includes several personal photographs showing Patel in informal settings, such as smoking cigars, sitting in a vintage convertible, and taking a mirror selfie while holding a bottle of rum. In addition, the group released samples of more than 300 emails, which appear to include a mix of personal and professional correspondence dating from 2010 to 2019.
The FBI confirmed that Patel’s personal email account had been targeted. A spokesperson for the bureau stated that appropriate steps had been taken to mitigate any potential risks. The agency also emphasized that the data involved is historical in nature and does not contain classified or sensitive government information.
