Google is introducing a major update to its Google Photos app, adding new AI-powered features and expanding support for iPhone users.

The update includes iOS access to conversational editing, improved facial editing, and several other AI tools designed to make photo editing more intuitive and creative.

The highlight of this update is the “Help me edit” feature, which allows users to describe how they want Google’s AI to edit their photos using either voice or text. Previously available only on Pixel and select Android devices, the feature is now rolling out to iOS users in the United States.

According to Google, iPhone users can now simply describe their desired edits and watch Google Photos bring their ideas to life. Along with this, the redesigned editor interface from Android is coming to iOS, offering smoother gestures and one-tap editing suggestions for easier adjustments.

Google Photos is also getting smarter at recognizing faces. The app can now reference photos from your gallery to ensure edits like removing glasses, opening closed eyes, or adding smiles look more natural and accurate. This improvement relies on your private face groups to maintain consistency, ensuring that edited photos still resemble you and your friends.

Another exciting addition is the integration of Google’s Nano Banana AI model, which allows users to transform photos into artistic styles such as paintings, mosaics, or illustrations. Both Android and iOS users will also see a new “Ask” button that opens a chatbot-like interface. This feature lets you edit photos conversationally or ask questions about the images in your library. For Android users, new AI templates are being introduced as well, letting you apply creative prompts like “put me in a high fashion photoshoot” with a single tap.

In addition, the “Ask Photos” tool — which helps users search their gallery using natural language — is expanding to more than 100 new regions and 17 new languages. With these updates, Google Photos is becoming more than just a storage app, turning into a smart, AI-driven editing companion that helps users easily enhance and personalize their pictures on any device.
