Google has expanded passport-based digital ID support in Google Wallet for Android users, adding three more countries after the earlier rollout in the US and UK.

Users can now add passports issued by Brazil, Singapore, and Taiwan as digital IDs inside Google Wallet.

The feature allows users to store their passport as an ID pass directly on their Android phone. To begin, users need to open Google Wallet, tap the plus button, choose ID, and then select passport under the ID pass section.

The setup process includes three security steps. First, users take a photo of the passport information page. Next, they scan the passport’s built-in security chip using their phone’s NFC feature. Finally, they record a short selfie video to confirm identity and prove they are a real person.

Google advises placing the passport on a flat surface, opening either the front cover, back cover, or photo page, and slowly moving the phone over the passport to detect the embedded chip. Users may also need to remove their phone case and make sure NFC is enabled.

Only one ID pass can be linked to each Google account. If needed, the passport ID can be removed through the Google Wallet app or from the user’s online account settings.
