A shooting incident at the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner has raised fresh concerns about political violence in the United States, with billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk strongly reacting to the attack.

Musk shared his thoughts on the social media platform X, calling the event a sign of a dangerous trend. “They are willing to die to kill the democratically elected president,” he wrote, referring to the attack that interrupted the high-profile event attended by Donald Trump and senior US officials.

The incident happened at the Washington Hilton in Washington, D.C., where a 31-year-old suspect, allegedly carrying several weapons, including a shotgun and handgun, tried to break through a Secret Service security checkpoint.

The suspect then opened fire, creating panic among hundreds of guests, including journalists, politicians, and government officials. Security teams quickly escorted Trump and Melania Trump away from the stage as guests rushed for cover under tables.

During the confrontation, a Secret Service agent was hit but was protected by a bullet-resistant vest. Officials said the agent is in stable condition.

Authorities confirmed the suspect has been taken into custody and is believed to have acted alone. Investigators are still working to determine the motive behind the attack, which happened near the main security screening area.

The security breach at one of Washington’s most high-profile gatherings has triggered strong reactions across political and public circles, with many warning about growing threats against elected leaders and calling for tighter security measures.

Trump later told reporters that a Secret Service agent was shot in the bulletproof vest. He added that the suspect is now in custody and the investigation remains ongoing.
