Google is preparing to make file sharing between Android and Apple devices much easier.

The company has confirmed that support for Apple’s AirDrop will soon expand beyond Pixel phones to many more Android devices.

Right now, only Pixel 10 models can use Android’s Quick Share to exchange files with iPhones, iPads, and Macs directly. But that limitation may not last long. Eric Kay, Google’s vice president of engineering for Android, said that “a lot more” Android phones will gain this ability later this year.

According to Kay, Google spent significant time ensuring Quick Share works smoothly not just with iPhones but also with Apple tablets and laptops. After testing the feature successfully on Pixel devices, Google is now working with Android partners to bring the same experience to a wider range of phones. While no brands were officially named, companies like Nothing and chipmaker Qualcomm have already hinted that support is on the way.

Google is also trying to improve the experience for people switching from iOS to Android. The company wants to reduce common problems like missing messages, incomplete data transfers, and setup issues. Apple has been working on easier phone-to-phone transfers since 2024, and early signs of collaboration between the two companies were spotted in Android test builds late last year.

If everything goes as planned, sharing photos, videos, and files between Android and Apple devices could soon feel almost as seamless as AirDrop does within Apple’s own ecosystem.
