Norway has officially accused a Chinese state-linked hacking group of breaking into several organizations inside the country.

The warning came from the Norwegian Police Security Service, which said the cyberattacks were carried out by a group known as Salt Typhoon.

In a report released on Friday, Norwegian authorities said the hackers exploited vulnerable network devices to gain access to systems. The activity is believed to be part of an espionage campaign linked to the Chinese government, though officials did not name the specific companies affected.

Norway is the latest country to publicly confirm an intrusion connected to Salt Typhoon. The group has been active for years and is known for quietly infiltrating critical infrastructure around the world. Senior officials in the United States have previously described Salt Typhoon as an “epoch-defining threat” due to the scale and long-term impact of its operations.

Past investigations have linked the group to cyber intrusions at major telecommunications providers in Canada and the United States, where attackers allegedly intercepted the communications of high-ranking political figures. Those incidents pushed telecom companies to strengthen their cybersecurity defenses.

The Norwegian report did not include detailed technical information about the attacks, and officials said the investigation is still ongoing. A spokesperson for Norway’s embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
