Google is experimenting with a new feature that adds AI-generated Audio Overviews directly to mobile search results.

This podcast-style response is part of Google’s ongoing push to integrate generative AI across its services and is currently available through the Google Search Labs in the U.S.

When users search for certain queries, like “How do noise cancellation headphones work?”—they may see a new “Generate Audio Overview” button below the “People also ask” section. Tapping it triggers an AI process that takes up to 40 seconds to generate a short audio clip.

These overviews are powered by AI-generated hosts who simulate a conversation explaining the topic in an engaging format. Once created, the audio plays within an embedded player that supports pause, mute, and speed adjustments. Users will also see source links beneath the player for additional context.

This feature builds on Google’s earlier AI audio tools, such as those in NotebookLM and Gemini, which can generate audio content from documents, notes, and research. Currently, the feature is limited to English-language users in the U.S., but it hints at a broader vision where AI could make search experiences more interactive and accessible.
