Google will soon require political advertisers to prominently disclose when they make their ads with AI.
Starting in November, Google says advertisers must include a disclosure when an election ad features “synthetic content” that depicts “realistic-looking people or events.”
The move comes as AI-generated content becomes increasingly sophisticated and difficult to distinguish from real content. This has raised concerns that AI could be used to create fake news, propaganda, or other forms of political disinformation.
The disclosure requirement is intended to help voters make informed decisions about the ads they see. It will also make it more difficult for bad actors to use AI to spread misinformation.
