Google is rolling out the ability to share Gemini Gems — custom AI assistants built for specific tasks — the company announced on Thursday.

Initially launched last year as part of the Gemini Advanced subscription, Gems allow users to create specialized chatbots with written instructions for scenarios like learning, brainstorming, career guidance, writing, or coding.

With the new update, Gems can now be shared with friends, family, or co-workers as easily as sharing a file on Google Drive. Users will be able to control permissions, deciding who can view, use, or edit a Gem. This makes it easier to collaborate and reduces the need for people to build nearly identical assistants independently.

Google says Gem sharing could prove useful in everyday tasks such as family vacation planning, meal preparation, or group writing projects. It also ensures consistency in workplace settings, where colleagues can share the same AI assistant instead of recreating similar versions.

The feature is accessible via the Gem manager on the web app by selecting the “Share” icon next to a custom Gem. After an initial rollout to Gemini Advanced, Business, and Enterprise users in over 150 countries, Gems became available to all users earlier this year with added support for file uploads.
