After years of limited support, Google is expanding its presence on watchOS with the launch of a new Google Calendar app for the Apple Watch.

This brings the total number of Google apps available on watchOS to four, joining Google Maps, Keep, and YouTube Music.

The Google Calendar app displays a week’s worth of events, showing each item’s time and location, along with a simplified Google Tasks list. Users can tap an event for brief details, but will be prompted to open the iPhone app for more information — a limitation similar to what’s seen on Wear OS.

Two home screen complications are included: “Today’s date,” a small circular widget displaying the day and date, and “What’s next,” which comes in circular, rectangular, or Smart Stack formats to show your next appointment. Both widgets launch the Calendar app with a tap.

While the app may appeal to those deep in the Google ecosystem, Apple’s native calendar app already syncs with Google Calendar and offers more in-depth views, such as full-month and week summaries. Nevertheless, the new app offers another option for users who prefer Google’s interface on Apple hardware.
