Google has started rolling out a new feature that lets users in the United States change their Gmail address without losing their data or creating a new account.

With this update, users who have access can go to their Google Account settings, open Personal info, then Email, and select the Google Account email option. There, they will see a “Change Google Account email” button that allows them to update their username.

However, this change comes with some limits. Users can change their Gmail username only once every 12 months, and after switching, they won’t be able to delete the new email address during that period.

Google also confirmed that old emails and data will remain safe. The previous email address will still work as an alternate login, meaning users can sign in using both the old and new addresses.

The feature was first noticed on some Hindi-language support pages, as reported by 9to5Google. Google says the rollout is gradual, so not everyone will see the option right away.
