Google is expanding ads in AI Mode, its conversational Search experience, to 10 additional countries, including India and Pakistan.
The company announced the rollout on October 28, saying sponsored placements are being introduced in Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Singapore. Google says the ads will be clearly marked as “Sponsored” so users can distinguish them from organic results.
Google also plans to introduce multiturn ads in the United States, allowing sponsored placements to appear as people ask follow-up questions during an ongoing AI Mode conversation. The company says queries in AI Mode are, on average, three times longer than traditional searches. It also claims that click-through rates for sponsored and organic product-list items are already similar, based on its own research and internal data.
The company plans to extend AI Mode ads to Brazil, Mexico and the United Kingdom during the fourth quarter of 2026. Google has not announced a specific launch date for those markets, and Nepal is not included in the 10-country expansion announced this week.
The rollout comes as Google works to make AI-powered search a stronger advertising channel. During its third-quarter earnings call, company executives acknowledged that AI Mode currently generates less advertising revenue than traditional Search, even as usage continues to grow. Google says it is expanding ad experiments across AI Mode and AI Overviews while testing new formats for conversational searches.
The expansion is part of Google’s wider use of AI across its advertising business, including AI-powered ad moderation systems designed to identify policy violations and stop harmful ads before they reach users.
