Ford is recalling more than 1 million vehicles across the United States because of a software issue that affects the rearview camera.

According to the company, the camera may show a delayed, frozen, or blank image, which could make it harder for drivers to see behind them and increase the risk of a crash.

The recall covers several popular models made between 2021 and 2024, including the:

  • Ford Bronco
  • Ford Edge
  • Ford F-150
  • Ford Escape (2023–2024)
  • Ford Expedition (2022–2024)
  • Ford Mustang (2024)
  • Mustang Mach-E (2021–2023)
  • Lincoln Navigator (2022–2024)
  • Lincoln Nautilus (2021–2023)

Drivers can update the software themselves through an over-the-air update, or they can visit a Ford dealership to have it done.

Ford said it started receiving reports about the issue in January 2025. Engineers were able to recreate the problem in April. The company is aware of at least one minor crash linked to the camera issue but says no injuries have been reported.

This isn’t the first time Ford has had problems with its rearview cameras. In 2023, the company was fined $165 million for delays in handling a similar recall. And earlier this year, Ford issued two separate recalls for nearly 289,000 vehicles, including the Bronco, F-Series, and Expedition, also due to rearview camera defects.
