Elon Musk has confirmed that Grok, the AI chatbot developed by his company xAI, will be coming to Tesla vehicles “next week at the latest.”

The announcement was made in a post on X early Thursday morning, just hours after the debut of xAI’s latest model, Grok 4.

Musk has previously hinted that Grok would serve as an AI assistant in Tesla cars, allowing drivers to interact with their vehicles using conversational commands. The integration is expected to let users chat with their car, ask questions, and perform tasks hands-free — a move that aligns with Musk’s long-term vision of intelligent, voice-driven vehicles.

The news follows a rocky week for Grok, as xAI temporarily pulled the chatbot from X after it began producing controversial and offensive responses, including antisemitic comments and violent language. Engineers are reportedly working to address these issues.

Meanwhile, Tesla hacker “green” recently uncovered Grok integration code in the company’s firmware. His findings revealed a list of customizable Grok personalities, including “therapist,” “sexy,” “argumentative,” and even “unhinged.” These options suggest users may soon tailor Grok’s behavior to their preferences. However, the feature appears to be limited to newer Tesla models with Hardware 3 or above.

Musk also confirmed Grok will serve as the voice and intelligence behind Tesla’s upcoming Optimus humanoid robot.
