ChatGPT users around the world faced problems on Wednesday as the AI chatbot by OpenAI went down for a short time.
Many people said they could not get responses, and some even reported that their past conversations disappeared.
According to Downdetector, which tracks online service issues, the outage peaked at 12:44 PM, with over 500 reports coming from India alone. Users from other countries also faced similar problems. The website version of ChatGPT was affected the most, but mobile app users had issues too.
OpenAI has not yet given an official statement about the glitch. ChatGPT has faced outages before, including two in July, affecting both casual users and professionals who rely on the tool daily.
Users shared their frustration on social media. One wrote, “There is a glitch today in ChatGPT. All replies disappeared from all conversations!” Another joked, “ChatGPT is down. You won’t see some people today.” Many said they could not complete work without the chatbot.
Earlier on Tuesday, OpenAI announced new parental controls for ChatGPT after reports claimed the system encouraged a teenager to think about suicide. Soon, parents will be able to link their accounts to their teen’s account and set rules for safe responses. Parents will also get notifications if their teen is in serious distress.
“Within the next month, parents will be able to control how ChatGPT responds to their teen,” OpenAI said, adding that its models now follow safety guidelines more reliably.
