OpenAI has officially launched a new ChatGPT App Directory, allowing users to browse and use interactive apps directly inside the chatbot.
The update marks a major step toward turning ChatGPT into an “everything app” that connects with popular services like Apple Music, Spotify, Zillow, and DoorDash without leaving the chat interface.
Along with the directory, OpenAI has opened its SDK for developers, making it easier to build tools that run natively within ChatGPT’s UI. CEO Sam Altman previously said OpenAI plans to add “obvious platform features over time,” and an app-store-style ecosystem brings ChatGPT closer to becoming a full-fledged platform rather than just a chatbot.

OpenAI has also renamed its existing connectors as “apps.” File-based connectors are now called apps with file search, research tools are apps with deep research, and synced services are apps with sync. These apps may use ChatGPT’s Memory feature if enabled, and OpenAI says user data may help train models if the “improve the model for everyone” option is turned on.
Newly added apps include Apple Music, which lets users create playlists and manage their music library, and DoorDash, which can turn meal ideas into a ready-to-order shopping cart. While the expansion strengthens ChatGPT’s ecosystem, OpenAI has not yet explained how this app model will generate long-term revenue.
