OpenAI has rolled out a useful update to ChatGPT’s deep research tool that makes long AI-generated reports much easier to read and navigate.
The company has added a full-screen document viewer that opens research reports in a separate window instead of keeping everything inside the chat.
With this new viewer, users can scroll through reports more comfortably and jump directly to specific sections using a table of contents displayed on the left side. On the right, ChatGPT shows a clear list of sources used in the research, making it simpler to review where the information comes from and verify details.
The deep research feature, first introduced last year, allows OpenAI to have ChatGPT search across the web and compile detailed reports on almost any topic. Now, users can guide that process even more by asking the tool to focus on specific websites or connected apps while the research is being done.
Another improvement is real-time progress tracking. While ChatGPT is generating a report, users can see how far along it is, adjust the scope of the research, or add new sources on the fly. Once the report is finished, it can be downloaded directly from the viewer in multiple formats, including PDF, Word, and Markdown.
According to OpenAI, these new deep research features are starting to roll out today for Plus and Pro subscribers. Users on the ChatGPT Go plan and those using the free version of the app will begin seeing the update in the coming days.
