YouTube has started rolling out a new AI-powered playlist generator for Premium subscribers on iOS and Android, making it easier to create music playlists using simple text or voice prompts.
The new feature appears inside the Library tab. Users can tap the “New” button, choose the “AI playlist” option, and then describe the kind of music they want. Prompts like “raging death metal,” “sad post rock,” “progressive house mix for a chill party,” or “90s classic hits” allow the system to instantly generate a personalized playlist based on mood, genre, or occasion.
This is not YouTube’s first experiment with AI-driven music discovery. Back in July 2024, the platform tested prompt-based custom radio stations in the United States. The full rollout of AI playlists now signals a stronger push to integrate generative AI into everyday listening.
YouTube Premium and @YouTubeMusic Premium users can now instantly turn an idea, mood or genre into a personalized playlist using our new AI playlist feature 🎧

YouTube is also following a wider industry trend. Rival streaming platforms such as Spotify, Amazon Music, and Deezer have already introduced AI-powered playlists or radio features to improve music discovery.
The move comes as YouTube works to make its Premium subscription more appealing. Recently, the company limited access to song lyrics for some free users on the YouTube Music app, calling it a small-scale experiment. At the same time, Google has reported steady growth in subscriptions, revealing that Google One and YouTube Premium together now have 325 million paying users.
With AI-generated playlists now part of Premium, YouTube is clearly betting that smarter personalization will help keep subscribers engaged and listening longer.
