Bluesky is testing a new feature that makes it easier to spot livestreams and live sports events directly from user profiles.

The platform is adding a red border and a “live” label under profile pictures for select accounts. Tapping on the marked profile photo takes users outside of Bluesky to the actual livestream, such as on YouTube or Twitch.

We’re testing a new feature! Starting this week, select accounts can add a livestream link to sites like YouTube or Twitch, and their Bluesky profile will show they’re live now.

The feature was first announced by Bluesky COO Rose Wang, highlighting its initial rollout for the NBA and WNBA’s accounts on the platform. Bluesky says the live badge will also appear for “a handful of accounts” linking to livestreams, with plans to expand the feature based on user feedback.

“We aren’t trapping you in Bluesky,” Wang noted, signaling a contrast to platforms like X (formerly Twitter), which often try to keep users within their ecosystem.

While Bluesky isn’t aiming for formal streaming partnerships like Twitter had with major leagues, the test reflects its intent to foster a growing sports community, playfully dubbed “Sports Bluesky.”
