Apple has released an emergency security update to patch a new zero-day exploit that was being used to hack iPhones and iPads.

“Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited against versions of iOS before iOS 16.6,” the company said in an advisory issued on Wednesday.

While Apple said it addressed the security issue in iOS 17.0.3 and iPadOS 17.0.3 with improved checks, it has yet to reveal who found and reported the flaw.

Zero-day exploits are particularly dangerous because they are unknown to security vendors and therefore cannot be detected by antivirus software or other security solutions. This makes it important to keep your devices up to date with the latest security patches.
