Apple has made updates to its App Store policies to clarify the process for developers to integrate external payment platforms.

Even if developers choose to use an outside payment platform, they are still required to pay Apple a percentage.

According to a support page detailing external purchase links, Apple will claim a 27 percent cut, reduced from the usual 30 percent, or 12 percent for developers enrolled in the App Store Small Business Program.

The revised Section 3.1.1(a) of the App Store Review Guidelines outlines additional rules for developers seeking to incorporate alternative payment methods. This includes a requirement for developers to apply for an “entitlement” to enable such features.

Furthermore, developers are prohibited from exclusively receiving payments from sources outside of Apple’s ecosystem; they must also provide Apple’s in-app purchase system within their applications.
