Anthropic is introducing Voice Mode to Claude Code, its AI coding assistant designed for developers.
The new feature allows programmers to interact with the tool using spoken commands, moving coding workflows closer to a hands-free and conversational experience.
The update was announced by Anthropic engineer Thariq Shihipar on X, who said the feature is currently being rolled out gradually. At the moment, Voice Mode is available to about 5 percent of users, with a wider rollout expected over the coming weeks.
Voice Mode allows developers to control Claude Code by speaking commands instead of typing them. To activate the feature, users can type the command /voice to switch it on. Once enabled, they can speak instructions directly to the assistant, which will then carry out the requested task. For example, a developer could say something like “refactor the authentication middleware,” and the assistant would perform the requested change.
Voice mode is rolling out now in Claude Code. It’s live for ~5% of users today, and will be ramping through the coming weeks.

Anthropic has not yet provided detailed information about the limitations of the feature. It remains unclear whether there will be limits on the number of voice interactions or any technical restrictions. The company has also not confirmed whether it partnered with an external voice technology provider, such as ElevenLabs, with which it was previously reported to be in discussions.
This is not Anthropic’s first move into voice interaction. The company introduced Voice Mode for its general-purpose Claude chatbot last year, allowing users to speak to the AI for a variety of everyday tasks.
The launch comes at a time of intense competition in the AI coding assistant market. Tools such as Microsoft’s GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Google’s developer AI tools, and OpenAI’s coding assistants are all competing to attract developers.
Despite the crowded market, Claude Code has become one of the most widely used AI coding assistants. In February, Anthropic said the tool had reached a run rate revenue of more than 2.5 billion dollars, more than doubling since the start of 2026. The company also reported that weekly active users of Claude Code have doubled since January.

Anthropic’s Claude mobile app has also seen rapid growth recently. After the company refused to allow the U.S. Department of Defense to use its AI for domestic surveillance or autonomous weapons, the app experienced a surge in popularity and climbed to the top of the U.S. App Store rankings, surpassing ChatGPT.
