Google is introducing a new safety feature for Android users in the United States to help protect against phone call scams.

The feature was first tested in the United Kingdom earlier this year, and it is now rolling out more widely.

The idea is simple. Many scams happen when someone is on a call with a stranger who tries to pressure them into opening a banking or payment app while sharing their screen. To prevent this, Android will now warn users if they open certain financial apps during a call with a number that is not saved in their contacts.

When this happens, the phone automatically shows a warning message and forces a 30-second delay before the app can be used. Google says this short pause is meant to break the scammer’s control and give people a moment to think clearly before taking any risky action.
