Adobe has announced plans to acquire Topaz Labs, the AI company known for its advanced video and image enhancement technology, as it continues expanding its AI-powered creative tools.

Once the deal is completed, Topaz Labs will become part of Adobe’s creative business, strengthening the company’s image and video editing capabilities.

Topaz Labs has spent more than 20 years developing software for improving photos and videos and earned an Emmy Award last year for its production technology. In recent years, the company introduced AI models such as Astra for video upscaling and Wonder for image enhancement and retouching. It has also developed technology that enables large AI video models to run efficiently on consumer-grade graphics cards.

Adobe already integrates some Topaz tools into Creative Cloud, but the acquisition will allow the company to bring Topaz’s AI models into its Firefly AI platform and other photo and video editing applications. Despite the acquisition, Adobe said Topaz’s products will continue to be available as standalone services through the company’s website.

According to Adobe, the acquisition will help creative professionals improve video quality, sharpen details, reduce image noise, and restore old or archival footage while combining AI-generated content with real-world media. The company also highlighted Topaz Labs’ expertise in running powerful AI models directly on users’ devices, which can deliver faster performance, lower costs, and a more responsive editing experience.

The move comes as Adobe faces growing competition from creative software rivals such as Canva and Blackmagic Design’s DaVinci Resolve. By adding Topaz Labs’ technology to its ecosystem, Adobe aims to offer more advanced AI-powered editing features without requiring creators to rely on third-party software. Adobe expects the acquisition to be completed during the second half of 2026.
